Some people collect stamps, I collect data on the housing market. Imagine how bullied I am!

I collect data published by the Land Registry, Rightmove.co.uk, Halifax and the Office for National Statistics and bring them together once a month to help give a clue on the trends on asking prices, sale prices and transaction volumes. I try not to give my own view immediately as to what they might mean – that’s for others.

Remember, not all baskets of data are the same. The average sold prices are not of the properties that are used in when the average asking prices are calculated so be careful just what conclusions you draw. Each organisation uses a different method to calculate their numbers so again, be wary when comparing one with another. Look at trends…
